River of Life
A small river trickles
Over the old, dead tree
It forms pools
Where the lost, the needy, the sick
Gather to drink of its life-giving stream
Then rushes down, filling every gully
Washing away old, dry leaves
Bringing new life to all around
Slowly it winds its way toward me
Shall I drink?
My flesh is so thirsty,
My body so bruised
Slowly I stoop
Pride falls to the ground
As I kneel to take a drink
Starting at my spirit,
Climbing to my soul
Cleansed and renewed
I stand
My life is changed
That stream that started
At the hands and feet
Of my precious Jesus
Gushed from His side
Consuming His life,
A life shed for me
That one day,
Together with my Lord,
I my stoop and drink
Of the River of Life
And never be thirsty
Again
